The annual event run by MagicWand in Barrhead invites new primary seven pupils from every East Renfrewshire primary school to the town’s Arthurlie Park.
On Wednesday last week, the final day of the event, Neilston’s St Thomas’s Primary School and St Cadoc’s Primary school were being put through their paces.
The pupils are tested on their knowledge on all things safety tested while learning valuable lessons about staying safe.
Online safety, safety around drugs and alcohol, stranger danger and some vital life advice was given out to the excited pupils using intuitive demonstrations, including a set of specially made goggles that gives pupils an idea of what it is like to be severely drunk.
Organiser Rena McGuire said: “It was a great success and we would like to thank all the people who helped make it a success including the people who gave up their time to give presentations and do our part to keep youngsters safe in the community.” One of the vents saw kids putting on specialist goggles which simulate the affects of drinking more than 20 units of alcohol, or downing an entire bottle of vodka.
Another saw kids being approached by an actor who posed as a stranger, before a police woman filled them in on the dangers of strangers.
