Police were called to the scene after receiving reports of an incident on the town’s Main Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

They arrived to find an injured man laying on the ground close to the newsagent near the junction with Ralston Road.

He was rushed by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

At the time of going to press, it’s understood the injured man is still receiving treatment for his injuries.

A large police operation followed the incident with nearby Kerr Street locked down.

No one was allowed to leave their homes as police closed off the street.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, told The News she was told to stay inside by officers.

She said: “We heard a good bit of shouting and when I looked outside an officer told me to stay in indoors.” Two men, aged 46 and 29 appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court in relation to the incident.

Stephen Charlick, 46, and James Charlick, 29, are both charged with alleged assault to severe injury, danger of life and attempted murder.

Neither made a plea or declaration when they appeared from custody on Monday.

Stephen Charlick was committed for further examination and granted bail, while James Charlick was remanded in custody pending full a committal hearing on March 2.
