The window of a Barrhead flat remains boarded up this week after it was doused in a flammable liquid, believed to have been petrol, and set alight.

It is not known if the attack in Dougray Place was targeted at this time, however police are appealing for witnesses after the September 9 incident.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “The attack is believed to have taken place overnight, between 11pm and 6.30am.

“The window was extensively damaged however fire failed to spread further.

“Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses to aid us in our enquiries into what is believed to be an isolated incident.” Neighbours have told of their concern after the attack, which many admitted went completely unnoticed until the next morning.

One neighbour spoke to the Barrhead News but did not wish to be named.

The mum-of-two said: “It’s scary but we didn’t actually see or hear anything at all, I was walking to my mum’s the next day when I saw it but there were no sirens or fire brigade and I didn’t hear a commotion or anything like that.

“Who ever has done it has obviously done it quietly and on the sly, but I’m glad the close door was closed, what if they had put it through a letterbox or something?” Another, a 45-year-old man who lives alone, said: “It’s crazy that this happened just over the road, but I had no idea about it until today.” Detectives are probing the incident and it is understood they are carrying out tests on a container found at the scene to determine what liquid was inside it.

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact Barrhead police on the non emergency number 101.

Dougray Place also made the news just two weeks ago when a car in the street was vandalised in a spree that saw seven other cars marked with gang slogans and scratched.
