A SPIRITED performance by Whitecraigs saw them edge to victory over Kirkcaldy in a bruising encounter on Saturday.

The West Lodge side made several changes for this Premier Cup match, but all of the players who came into the line-up turned in fine displays to more than merit their inclusion.

It took just a few minutes for the tone to be set for the afternoon when crunching tackles by Nicky Blamire and Stewart Magorian got Craigs on the front foot.

Despite the fierce defence from Craigs, it was the home side that was dominating possession in the early exchanges.

But midway through the half Ian Laidlaw stole the ball and made a 30 metre dash for the line, only stopped short by desperate cover tackling.

The prop showed his awareness though and was able to offload to Jamie Christine, who in turn found Ben Blamire for the opening try.

Kirkcaldy came back strongly after going behind, but with Craigs' 'killer Bs' - the Blamire twins - marshalling the defence, they were struggling to find a way through.
