His bout with Portuguese champion Ricardo Luiz had been due to take place at the start of June at Wishaw’s Rivals Centre, but had to be cancelled due to what has been described by fight bosses as ‘a small medical problem’.

Hopes had been high for Morrison ahead of the fight but he insists he won’t let the cancellation get him down.

In a fortunate turn of events Morrison’s sponsors, Musclebound, have agreed to reschedule the fight for their centeneary show at Paisley’s Lagoon Centre at the start of August.

Morrison explained: “It is really disappointing that I had to withdraw from the fight with Ricardo in June. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get the opportunity to fight him again this year which would have been a major setback for my career plan.

“Luckily my sponsor, Musclebound, stepped in and offered to reschedule the bout on their massive centenary show to keep me on track.

“I really can’t thank Kad at Musclebound enough for all he does for me — he really doesn have the fighter’s interests at heart.” Morrison had been flying following his victory over Abdoul Toure in Wishaw earlier this year.

Fight boss Vinnie McWilliams has already tipped his man for the top, and under the tutelage of Lloyd Cochran, Morrison is confident ahead of his next fight.

Musclebound boss Kad Ahmad revealed he was more than happy to help out when he heard of his sponsor’s injury issues, and can’t wait to play host to him at the Lagoon next month.

Ahmad said: “When I heard that John-Ross had to pull from his last fight I was devastated for him.

“I knew how much the fight meant to him, so when he got the green light to fight again I was only too happy to help reschedule the bout for him.

“We have been really lucky that things have just fallen into place.” JR will now fight Ricardo Luiz for the WBC International Challenge Belt on the August 1 at the Lagoon Arena in Paisley.

Tickets are available from Musclebound and JR Morrison.
