It has been a successful couple of weeks for the Barrhead club, who have enjoyed considerable victories over the last 12 months.

Only two weeks after winning the District Final in defence of the Scottish Young Bowlers Association under-17 Scottish Triples Cup, young star Daniel McCusker keeps on breaking club records.

McCusker’s win means that he becomes not only the first junior, but the first male in the history of the club to reach the Scottish Championship singles final.

The 15-year-old, who is a part of the club’s triples team, won the Glasgow West District Championship at Pollokshaws following a comfortable 19-3 victory over his opponent in the final.

A pupil at Barrhead High School, McCusker joined Arthurlie Bowling Club five years ago.

He comes from a bowling family, with both his father and elder brother both members of the club.

McCusker has continuously turned heads throughout his relatively short career.

Barrhead Sport last year reported how he had been invited to try out for the Scottish under-17 national side.

He also bagged the Johnstone and District under-17 Championship last year, and is the current Arthurlie Bowling Club under-25 champion.

The youngster was also part of the squad which lifted the inaugural Scottish Young Bowlers Association Scottish Salver, with a comfortable victory over Bellsburn Bowling Club last summer.

The team of Jonathan Neill playing skip, McCusker and Cameron Murray, battled through the tournament to bring the trophy back to Barrhead.

Ross Nelson, Arthurlie Bowling Club president, told Barrhead Sport at the time: “It is a fantastic victory and they have been rewarded for their attitude and hard work over the course of for the club.

“It is the first national success for the Juniors and it is a landmark victory for the club.” Anyone interested in Arthurlie Bowling Club can phone 0141 881 8630 for more details.
