The 2014 season was extraordinary for the club, having celebrated their 50th anniversary. They also made the leap into the 21st century with the installation of new courts to replace the blaes that had been almost unchanged since the club’s inception in 1964.

The new all-weather surface, funded by the club and supported by SportScotland, East Renfrewshire Council and other sources, will allow tennis to be played all year round for the first time in the club’s history. This will effectively double the playing time and allow youngsters and adults alike to reap the benefits of more court time.

The new courts were officially opened in the summer by former club member Nicola Burns, one of the finest talents to have ever come out the club, and saw great use during the season with both the club’s senior and junior teams playing matches and hosting visiting teams from all over the west of Scotland.

The club have also enjoyed a renewed link with Uplawmoor Primary School, which sees the school’s pupils benefit from the recent upgrade in facilities.

Murray Pollock, club president, explained: “One of the most exciting developments to spring from our new facilities, has been improved links between the tennis club and Uplawmoor Primary School.

“The school has free access to the courts for PE lessons, and this is helping to make tennis an everyday part of kids’ lives. We hope that this will bear fruit in the coming years as membership increases and we grow the junior teams.

“Now, as the weather improves, the club are turning our attention to the new season, with a membership recruitment programme planned for the spring.

“We hope that we can attract new members from neighbouring communities like Neilston, Lugton and Dunlop. Family and individual memberships are not expensive, and give members access to fantastic new facilities.” Anyone who is interested should go to the club website and contact any of the committee members whose details are on the club website at: www.uplawmoortennis.com.
