The 22-year-old enjoyed a successful 2014 which culminated in the Barrhead boxing club prospect winning gold at the Scottish Universities Championship in December.

With the last of his coursework now finished for Glasgow Caledonian University, Flockhart admits he is now looking forward to getting on with his boxing.

He told Barrhead Sport: “I had a fight on Friday night at the Alona Hotel at Strathclyde Park for a West of Scotland select against a London select.

“I’ve been working hard in the gym and trained hard so I knew I was going to put on a good performance and take the win.

“At the start it was difficult to balance uni and boxing, the boxing takes a lot of commitment outside of the gym so getting used to going runs in the morning was the hardest part.

“But once I got the hang of it I made sure that I had plenty of time during the day to get the uni work done.” Flockhart has a number of fights lined up for the remainder of the year, and revealed there is a possibility of some title fights on the horizon, an opportunity to add to his ever growing medal collection.

He added: “I’m going down to Newcastle on February 7 to fight for the British Universities title, so that’s what is in the immediate future, as for anything else I’ll just have to wait and see how I get on over the next month or so.

“If I win in Newcastle then I head to Manchester on the 20th for the British final, winning the Scottish Universities was a great achievement so winning the British would take it one step further.

“My main goal right now though is to one day win the Scottish National title and to represent Scotland at a major event.”
