But for wrestlers at Barrhead based Premier British Wrestling that is exactly what happened last week when former WWE superstar Paul London walked through the doors of the club’s academy at Auchenback Community Centre to meet them.

London was in town to deliver a seminar on wrestling techniques and moves to the eager and up and coming wrestlers — some of which are some of the hottest names in Scotland right now.

Ross Watson, PBW founder, said: “The seminar went really well and everyone had a great time.

“What was really good about the whole event was that when London showed the students various techniques, he was able to read each individual student and take them through it at a pace that suited them.” The likes of PBW star Kenny Williams were in attendance and eager to learn off one of the most popular wrestlers on the international circuit.

London has enjoyed a distinguished career on the road with many wrestling franchises. He has featured on Vince McMahon’s WWE — before moving on to star in Total Non-stop Action (TNA) and Ring of Honor among others.

Success in the Tag-Team Championship followed with Billy Kidman — before the pair relinquished the title to Frenchman Rene Dupree and his partner Kenzo Suzuki.

However London joined up with Brian Kendrick — and their rise was swift as the pair went on to record the longest holding of the belt in the history of WWE having bagged it in a victory over MNM.

Meanwhile London combined this success with personal glory of his own as he competed for the World Cruiserweight Championship — eventually winning the belt in a 2005 battle royale contest.

London himself seemed to really enjoy the event, and he later tweeted: “Thank you PBW Wrestling for hosting my seminar at your wonderful academy.

“Outstanding group, that are hungry and eager to learn!” Training at the Academy continues right through winter. Classes will take place every Sunday at Auchenback Community Centre from 11am to 3pm, with classes open to anyone over the age of 12.
