Thursday afternoon school coaching classes — which attract around 30 children a week — will continue to the end of the month before taking a winter break and restarting in spring.

The Rusty Racquets coaching sessions, which have also proved highly popular, have also run their course until next year.

However, two new sessions are making sure there is no shortage of on-court activities.

Club coach Bessie McQuaker has organised a new ladies’ Work-out Tennis Session every Tuesday from 9.15 to 10.15am.

Bessie explained: “The sessions are a mixture of circuit/cardio style training with tennis thrown into the bargain.

“It’s a great way to keep fit and hone your tennis skills at the same time.” Once of those taking part, Sharon Knox, added: “The classes are great fun, but are also pretty hard work.

I am sure it is doing us all a lot of good.

“It’s great to have a coffee and a chat in the pavilion after the session, but we have to take it easy with the biscuits for fear of putting back most the calories we have just burned up.” Another new session takes place on Thursday from 1pm to 3pm. The ladies team members who supported club night but were running out of light now using the courts ahead of the after-school coaching classes.

Murray Pollok, club president, said: “It’s great to see the courts generating their own momentum, and members and non-members taking advantage of the improved playing conditions.

“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our funders, SportScotland, East Renfrewshire Council, Leader Funding, Whitelee Wind Farm, the LTA and Mactaggart and Mickel, for making it all possible.”
