THE season may just be getting under way but excitement has reached fever pitch for a different reason amongst the junior family.
After six years of the annual Arthurlie v Pollok legend’s match, organiser and Barrhead Sport contributer Robert Burns has decided to shake things up.
Hours upon hours of work has been put in behind the scenes and Barrhead Sport are delighted to announce that this year’s tournament has been expanded to include both Neilston and the Vagabonds, a selection of junior icons.
The teams will take to Neilston’s Brig O’Lea stadium to battle it out — in good spirits — for the Eric Hickey trophy this Sunday.
Former professional referee John Rowbotham will be one of two professional referees on the day whilst Barrhead YFC’s Graham Vance will run the line alongside Tam Stewart.
As always the fun and games will be for a good cause with proceeds from the event being donated to three chosen charities. The Brightest Star, McMillan Nurses and Sands are all set to benefit from day with entry priced at £5 for adults, £3 for OAPs and kids up to the age of 10, and everyone else will free of charge.
