Whitecraigs 8 Biggar 52

CRAIGS faced Biggar, who are third top of Premier League Two, in round four of the Scottish National Cup at the weekend.

They found the superior opposition too much to handle as the four-division gap between the sides showed, with Biggar"s speed of mind, pace and ability to off-load the ball in the tackle being the difference between the sides.

It did not help when Craigs gifted Biggar a 17-point start in the opening 15 minutes and could only reply with a penalty from Ally Little.

However, once the home side settled they started to compete in all areas of the game, and in particular the forwards, who never took a step backwards, making a lot of ground with pick and drives.

The home backs tried to attack but found it difficult against a well organised defence, while Biggar counter-attacked from the mistakes and continued to increase their points tally.

At half time the score was 24-8 to Biggar, with the Whitecraigs try scored by Gavin Mahindru.

Biggar carried on where they had left off as they increased their scoring in the second half, although both teams were playing at pace and attacking at every opportunity.

It was an entertaining game to watch and if Biggar continue this form they will be in the mix for promotion to Premier One right up to the last day.

Whitecraigs can take a lot of credit from the game for their fitness, commitment and skill level, but they must maintain this momentum to achieve promotion with only three games remaining.

Whitecraigs - A Stevenson, G Johnstone, G Hutton, A Berrie, G Mahindru, A Little, S Henderson, I Laidlaw, B Blamire, McCormack, J Henderson, H Hunter, S Pollock, N Smyllie, N Blamire. Subs - G Haswell, R Walker, J Kemp, F Campbell
