Duo help team collect 57 medals
LOCAL swimming duo David Muir and Fiona Lang helped Ren 96 win a whopping 57 medals at North Ayrshire junior swim meet this week.
The junior members, aged from nine to 14 years won, produced a fantastic performance with Muir, from Barrhead, taking gold and silver medals while Lang, from the Neilston team, was a double gold medallist.
Jack Elby won seven gold medals, closely followed by 14-year-old Euan Brough who won six gold medals and Nikki Miller, 11, with four gold medals.
Precious metal was piled sky high as more and more Ren 96 swimmers achieved podium places.
Robyn Crawford and Laura Flanagan both took gold, silver and bronze medals.
Kirsty Miller and Ross Gale, both 14, were double gold medallists. Richard Laird collected gold and silver medals. Rebecca Crumlin, 11, Kirsty McGinley, 12, and Nicola Connor, 14, were also gold medal winners.
The medal mountain grew higher and higher. Ren 96's youngest competitor, eight-year-old Ruth Crocket, won bronze in the 50m freestyle as did Lynn Macdonald, 13, in the 200m fly.
Nine-year-old Lisa Miller enjoyed silver and bronze success.
Finna Parkinson won a silver medal in the 200m backstroke.
Ten-year-old Erin Wallace won two silver medals and two bronze medals while fellow 10-year-old Calum Young took two silvers and a bronze. Ross Young won bronze in the 200 IM.
Ren 96 head coach Sandy Blackwood said: "I'm delighted for the young swimmers that their hard work in training has been rewarded with personal best times and podium places. We are looking forward to the next set of challenges at West District group three and four and the mini league final with good reasons for optimism."
