Edinburgh United 2 - Arthurlie 5

ARTHURLIE played their first competitive game in 62 days - but they certainly weren't rusty as they stormed into the fourth round of the Emirates Junior Cup.

Conditions were far from perfect with the pitch being very heavy but credit is due to the Edinburgh club for managing to get the game on given recent weather conditions and to both sets of players for serving up an entertaining contest.

Arthurlie took the lead after 14 minutes, Steven Crawford played a defence-splitting pass through to Stephen McKeown who had burst from midfield and the Barrhead man slid the ball under David Sorley in the home goal to open the scoring.

It was all square though eight minutes later, a free-kick 25 yards out didn't look to be much danger but up stepped Ryan Dingan who sent a peach of a shot into the postage stamp of the net giving Neil Parry no chance.

Four minutes later Denis McLaughlin was sent through one-on-one with keeper Sorley but this time the home custodian managed to save at the Lie player's feet.

On the half hour Stephen McKeown went on another run from midfield and this time Sorley pulled him down and it was McKeown's namesake, Frank who fired home from the resulting spot-kick.

On 38 minutes it was 3-1, McLaughlin sent a great ball wide to Tony McParland who jinked inside then out before sending over a perfect cross for John Bradford to head home.

The travelling support thought that would be enough to see them safely through to the next round but Edinburgh United came out at the start of the second half with other ideas and pulled a goal back after five minutes.

Kenny Fisher went on a mazy run before shooting from just inside the Arthurlie penalty area. Parry blocked his effort but couldn't hold it and Fisher was first to the ball.
