Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer says it is important for his players to enjoy the moment after claiming a historic win over England on Sunday.

The Saltires recorded the biggest victory in their history by edging out the number one team in the world by six runs in Edinburgh.

It was their first game since cruelly being denied a place at next year’s World Cup in England and the significance of the result, with so much to prove for the team, was not lost on Coetzer who admitted it was their biggest win in the sport.

With two Twenty20s to play against Pakistan this week, Scotland could be forgiven for switching their focus to the upcoming matches, but Coetzer is keen to enjoy the momentous victory.

“We have got to enjoy the occasion,” he said. “These days don’t come around too often, we have to enjoy the occasion.

“The guys are all fit and in shape to look after themselves, but we can’t let this pass.

“The guys will enjoy themselves and I’m sure be fit and raring to go for the Pakistan games. We need to back this up.

“Pakistan will have seen the result and will be going to push us hard and put us under pressure. It’s going to be a couple of quality games, we don’t expect them to come here and not try to knock us all over the place.

“It could be an exciting couple of days.”

The Scotland skipper, who impressed with the bat by hitting 58 at the top of the order to set the tone for the rest of the day as they posted 371, was well aware of just how big the win was in terms of Scottish cricket and even world cricket.

He said: “Grant (Bradburn, coach), the way he has framed this schedule of games is about creating history, and by beating a full member and England, that has done that.

“It’s a credit to everyone in the whole organisation, they have done a fantastic job. The atmosphere was electric and it was an amazing day for everyone.”
