Neilston secured three points after they came from behind to beat Dunipace at Brig O’Lea in their latest league encounter.

A goal down at half-time, they fought back for a narrow win. Neilston were still missing several players due to injuries and made three changes with Robbie Cameron, Derek Kennedy and Kevin Kelly starting with Daniel McKay and Tam McGaughey moving to the bench. Barry Tulloch picked up an injury last week.

It was the home side who began well without troubling the Pace keeper and took until 12th minute before they created the first chance when Mark McCuish fired his free-kick just wide after Derek Kennedy was fouled. Five minutes later Kennedy was next to try but put his effort straight at the keeper.

Dunipace hadn’t posed much of an attacking threat but they opened the scoring in the 21th minute with their first effort on goal when Lamont and Taylor combined well to set up Flynn who slotted the ball home past James Digney. This seemed to spur the visitors on and forced some corners without troubling the home keeper.

The home side responded with Robbie Cameron’s shot being cleared off the line by the defender.

On the half hour Neilston’s Robbie Cameron did well to set Mark McCuish but his shot was saved by McAllister as they looked for the equaliser. The two combined again with McCuish crossed for Cameron but his shot was blocked by the defender.

Half-time: Neilston 0-1 Dunipace The second half began with the Farmer’s Boys on the front foot and came close to equalising when Stephen Hopewell’s shot just went wide. It was the last action for him five minutes later as he was replaced by Daniel McKay.

Neilston went three up front and got on level terms in the 54th minute when Robbie CAMERON was upended in the box and he got up to stroke the ball home into the bottom corner.

Neilston should have taken the lead minutes later when Daniel McKay beat the offside but couldn’t get his shot away after losing his feet.

At the other end Dunipace’s Heron broke clear to fire his shot just wide as the game went end to end. A good move from Neilston nearly brought the next goal but Robbie Cameron put his shot wide after Derek Kennedy and Kevin Kelly combined well. Minutes later they took the lead when Allan DIACK headed home from Kevin Kelly’s free-kick.

In the 71st minute, Dunipace drew level when Kerr drove his free-kick through the wall into the bottom corner after the home side conceded it on the edge of the box. Minute later they nearly took the lead when Lamont found Taylor in the box but his effort was blocked by McInnes.

At the other end Neilston came close with Robbie Cameron’s shot saved then Matt Stevenson blasted over the over. Derek Kennedy broke clear to see his low drive tipped round the far post by McAllister. From resulting corner Allan Diack’s header was cleared off the line.

Neilston’s pressure paid off in the 80th minute when Kevin KELLY’s curling free-kick somehow sailed through all the players into the bottom corner. The home side brought Tam McGaughey on for Robbie Cameron and he caused problems down the left to set up Daniel McKay but his effort went over the bar.

Neilston: Digney, Murphy, O’Brien, Diack, McInnes, Stevenson, Hopewell (D McKay), McCuish, Cameron (McGaughey), Kennedy, Kelly. Subs not used: Graham, Brodie and Lennox.
