POLLOK Juniors stars of yesteryear turned on the style to lift the The Legends Chaity four-team tournament at Neilston Juniors Brig O’Lea Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Newlandsfield old-boys put out a very strong outfit with many of their Championship winning side of six seasons ago dusting down their boots and they just edged out local rivals Arthurlie by two points in the contest which also saw host club Neilston participate along with a select XI of ex-junior and senior players aptly named The Vagabonds.

A good turnout watched Lok set their stall out right from the word go as they showed their class to trounce The Vagabonds 4-0 in the opening game of the contest.

Leading 1-0 at the break virtue of Gavin Friel’s opener the Glasgow giants turned on the style during the second half with striker Bryan Dingwall showing all the trademarks that he could still cut it at junior level by netting an impressive second half hat-trick.

Goalkeepers came out on top in the clash between Neilston and Arthurlie with neither Ton number one Brian Hewitt or his Dunterlie Park counterpart Stephen O’Neill conceding a goal in a typically hard fought no score draw.

In the third match of the afternoon that man Dingwall was again the main difference between the clash of Pollok and Neilston with the forward netting the only goal of a keenly contested encounter.

Arthurlie’s defence was again in mean form against The Vagabonds but were unable to breach an equally lock-tight defence with the points being shared in another no-score draw.

Sammy Johnston’s diving header was enough to get The Farmers Boys their first points of the tournament with a win over The Vagabonds and while Steve Convery rolled back the years to score the winner in Arthurlie’s 1-0 win over Pollok in the final game of the afternoon it wasn’t enough to give ‘Lie’ the trophy which was presented to skipper Kevin O’Neill.

With a four goal haul, Dingwall picked up the top goalscorer of the afternoon award along with the award of Pollok’s player of the afternoon. Steve Bonar picked up the Arthurlie award with Sammy Johnston and Derek McCulloch picking up respective awards for Neilston and The Vagabonds.
