By Robert Burns - Kilbirnie Ladeside 2 Arthurlie 3

ARTHURLIE came out on top in an entertaining fixture on Saturday.

The Barrhead side got off to the perfect start at Valefield Park when just seconds after the start they were awarded a free kick on the half-way line.

Frank McKeown fired the ball down the pitch and Craig Malcolm was on hand to tap it home.

On 21 minutes Malcolm became the provider when he set up Stephen Anderson, but his effort was well saved by Paul McCann.

But the large band of travelling supporters did not have to wait long for the second of the afternoon, when Malcolm smashed in from close range after just 25 minutes.

It was almost half-time before Kilbirnie had their first real effort of the game, but Neil Parry saved well from Jamie Longworth's effort.

A minute later Stephen Gallacher had to be alert to block Alan Kinney's effort as the Blasties tried to get themselves back into the game.

And just before the interval they did when a long cross was handled in the box by McKeown.

Longworth's effort from the spot gave Parry no chance.

The second half started with Kilbirnie on the attack and Kinney saw his effort blocked before Parry had to be at his best to save the second attempt.

With half an hour left to play Stevie Miller had a fantastic attempt when his left foot curler beat Parry but came off the underside of the bar before being cleared.

And Parry had to be alert again to block Kinney after the forward burst between James Lundie and McKeown and bore in on goal.

It was all Kilbirnie at this stage, but it looked as though the Lie had put the game to bed in the 70th minute when they put the ball in the net for a third time.

Callan Adam went on a fantastic run down the left before cutting the ball back to John McLay who flicked it to Malcolm to fire home, only for the referee to rule it offside to the dismay of the travelling support.

Kilbirnie levelled the game 10 minutes from time when a Longworth header flew past Parry.

Richard Chang went on a mazy run before feeding Kinney but Parry blocked his effort before clearing downfield.

With time running out and a draw on the cards Malcolm had another effort well saved but the rebound broke to Waddle who fired in from a tight angle to secure all three points and move Arthurlie to second in the league.

Arthurlie: Parry, Gallacher, Crawford, Lundie, McKeown, McLay, Winter, Johnston, Anderson, Malcolm, Adam. Subs: Andrew, Waddle, Bradford, Williams, Duncan, Cannon.
