By Robert Burns - Arthurlie 2 Pollok 1

ARTHURLIE came out on top in Saturday's derby against Pollok at Dunterlie Park thanks to goals from Callan Adam and Stephen Anderson.

Pollok, looking for their first victory since November, had the game's first effort when Bryan Dingwall tried a lob on 13 minutes, but his effort went just over.

On 24 minutes Joe Andrew somehow outjumped three Pollok defenders to head on to Sean Winter, but the Arthurlie midfielder's header was brilliantly saved by Pollok keeper Zander Cowie.

From the resulting corner Cowie gathered then sent a kick the full length of the pitch which Andy Essler was onto in a flash, but his first-time effort was wide of target.

Ryan McGregor had an effort just after the half hour and two minutes later he shot straight at Neil Parry in the home goal, blowing Pollok's best chance of the half.

The second half started with Craig Malcolm cutting in from the wing before sending a left-foot shot just over the top. Callan Adam brought out a fantastic save from Cowie after 10 minutes as the Barrhead side took the game by the scruff of the neck.

With Arthurlie dominant now, it was something of a surprise when Parry was called into action to make a great block from Dingwall, but on 61 minutes Cowie made another fine save this time to deny Winter.

Arthurlie deservedly went ahead when a free-kick from 20 yards saw the home central defenders make their way into the Pollok box. Adam had different ideas and fired in a low left-foot drive that the despairing Cowie could only help into the net.

Stephen Gallacher then came on for John Bradford as Mark Cameron tinkered with his side - then came the game's big talking point. On 74 minutes Neil Parry was adjudged to have picked up the ball inside his area after having hands on it, giving away an indirect free-kick.

Robert Downs, who had only come on to the park seconds earlier, rushed to the Barrhead keeper to get the ball but stupidly raised his hands and pushed Parry in the face.

Arguments raged at the amount of impact made by Downs, but the bottom line is if you raise your hands it is a straight red card as the referee adjudged.

The free-kick awarded came to nothing though and, now a man down, Pollok's cause got much harder through the foolishness of Downs.

With 10 minutes remaining Andrew made way for Anderson in attack and six minutes later 'Hagi' made it two, the second week running he has come off the bench to score.

Dingwall got the goal that was scant consolation for a Pollok side who don't have their troubles to seek at the moment.

Arthurlie: Parry, Bonar, Crawford, Lundie, McKeown, McLay, Winter, Bradford, Andrew, Malcolm, Adam, Anderson. Subs: Murdoch, Waddell, Gallacher, Williams, Ardalany, Cannon.

Arthurlie travel to Kilbirnie on league duty this Saturday, kick-off at 2pm.
