Arthurlie 6 Kirkaldy YM 0

ARTHURLIE secured their place in the draw for the fourth round of the Emirates Airlines Scottish Junior Cup after an emphatic 6-0 victory over Kirkcaldy YM at Dunterlie Park on Saturday.

The east coast side gave as good as they got and almost made it to half time before conceding the opener.

The second half was a clear-cut affair, with the Barrhead side's superior fitness and ability coming to the fore as they added another five goals without reply and eased into the next round.

Arthurlie's first effort on goal came after 20 minutes when Davie Williams sent over a fantastic cross that went right into the danger zone between the keeper and centre half, but the in-rushing Steven Bonar just couldn't connect at the far post.

Five minutes later James Roxburgh went on a great run through the middle of the park before releasing Craig Lowe, whose first-time shot brought out a great save from Neil Parry in the home goal.

Just after the half hour Kirkcaldy had a series of attempts when Roxburgh, Lowe and Rhairaih McQueen all had efforts, one of which cannoned off Williams arm and brought shouts for a penalty.

Just on half time the ball was swept in to the YM area and Craig Malcolm, although losing his balance, managed to control the ball on the turn before shooting - but Roy Ness in the away goal got his fingers to it and touched it out for a corner.

From the resulting corner the ball was bouncing around inside the area before Stephen Gallacher prodded it home to open the scoring in stoppage time.

As has happened many times already this season Arthurlie started the second half far better than the first and after only 30 seconds Sean Winter's cross was fired on target by Callan Adam, but again Ness was on his toes to save.

Ness who had been sent off for a last-man challenge two weeks previously reacted to the home supports' banter by pointing out that: "I would have made the ball first easily - if I had been two stones lighter!"

Nine minutes into the second half the YM keeper's weight issues made no difference as Winter cut in from the right wing before sending a fierce shot into the top corner of the net that would have beaten any keeper.

With their tails up the Barrhead side went for the throat and just two minutes later Joe Andrew made it three from the penalty spot after he had been pulled down. It was then four as Gallacher rose highest to head home an Adam corner. After 70 minutes Malcolm thought he had added to the scoreline, but a combination of keeper Ness and his twin brother Craig kept the Lie hitman's effort out.

Ten minutes later Ness again saved the day to get his hand to an Adam shot before John McLay lashed the rebound over the top. A minute later Malcolm's effort went agonisingly wide as Arthurlie poured forward time and time again.

With six minutes remaining Adam made it five with a fiendish left-foot thunderbolt that was on its way back out of the net before Ness saw it coming.

Just 60 seconds later Malcolm's cross looked to be behind substitute John Bradford, but he somehow arched back before looping a header over the stranded Ness to make it six and complete the scoring in what ended a comfortable victory for the Barrhead side.

With Scottish Cup replays and postponed ties to be played next Saturday Arthurlie do not have a game until Beith are the visitors on Saturday December 12.

ARTHURLIE: Parry, Gallacher, Williams, Lundie, McKeown, McLay, Bonar, Andrew, Malcolm, Winter. SUBS: Murdoch, Johnston, Cannon, Anderson, Bradford, Duncan, Dale.
