Beith 3 Arthurlie 2
ARTHURLIE were hit by a last-minute goal to deny them a share of the spoils away to Beith on Saturday.
A fantastic game played at breakneck pace for the entire 90 minutes was a great advert for junior football.
Arthurlie started the best and after only 60 seconds Beith keeper Keith Ross had to be alert to touch over a goal-bound Craig Malcolm header.
Joe Andrew went close before Frank McKeown forced Ross into another top save when he gathered at the second attempt, having touched the effort onto the crossbar.
Arthurlie were made to pay for not turning their dominance into goals when on 22 minutes the home side took the lead after a quite superb move.
Barrhead boy Joe Bradley was involved along with Kenny McLean and Andy Reid, whose movement and one-touch passing ripped the Barrhead backline wide open, before the ball was fed to John Craig, who duly fired home into the bottom corner.
Just minutes later Bradley fed Martin McGarvey, who threaded a pass through to Reid but the big centre forward couldn't find the target.
Tam Murdoch tried from range but his effort was inched over before Stephen Gallacher headed over when he looked likely to score.
The second half started with Arthurlie again on the front foot and after only two minutes the score was level.
John Johnston latched onto a loose ball in the centre of the park and his effort took a slight deflection before looping over Ross and into the net.
Ross had to be on his toes again to get hands to a Callan Adam effort minutes later before McLean went close at the other end.
On 15 minutes McLean made no mistake though as he got on the end of a Craig cross to put the Ayrshire side ahead for the second time.
McGarvey then Sean Winter had efforts before Ross again had to be at his best to deny John Bradford from a corner.
With minutes remaining the score was again level. A corner from the right saw Parry join the attack but it was Frank McKeown who found space and bulleted a header through a crowded goal-mouth and into the net.
It seemed both sides would be content with a point a piece but the home side hit Lie with a killer blow as Craig again found the net from distance to secure all three points for the Bellsdale side.
Next up for Arthurlie is the visit of Bellshill on Saturday to Dunterlie Park on league duty, kick-off 2pm.
