NEILSTON bounced back from their mauling against St Anthony's by getting their league campaign off to a flyer with an impressive win against Ashfield.
New signing Robbie Cameron fired in a double and Gary Fleming's goal saw them get off to the perfect start in their push for promotion to the Premier League.
That was just a few days after they were humiliated 6-0 at the hands of St Anthony's in Govan during their final Sectional League Cup game.
But Neilston boss Colin Lindsay was delighted with the players' reaction and said: "It was a good reaction from Wednesday's heavy defeat to St Anthony's.
"And the players also reacted well to going a goal down on Saturday.
"I thought it was a great performance and a good result to win 3-1.
"Ashfield have been on a good cup run and were full of confidence going into the match.
"It was great to get our league campaign off to a good start.
"Robbie Cameron scored twice and performed
well, as that is his first full competitive match of the season.
"We left him out on Wednesday against St Anthony's because he had a small injury problem but he performed well."
Ashfield went ahead after 20 minutes when Tony Chalmers fired the ball home from a tight angle.
But the home side fought back with Cameron netting his first of the afternoon when his snap-shot flew past the Ashfield keeper.
And Cameron doubled his goal tally for the
afternoon when he powered past the away defence before coolly slotting home from inside the box.
And the Ton put the game beyond doubt when Gary Flemming's cross deflected off an Ashfield defender before looping into the net.
Moments later Neilston went down to 10 men when Mark Thomson was dismissed by the referee - but it made no difference to the outcome. The Farmer's boys will travel down to Ayrshire for their second league clash of the season against Girvan on Saturday (kick off is at 2pm). The supporters' bus will leave Brig O'Lea on Saturday morning at 11am.
