Pollock 3 Neilston 0
COLIN Lindsay has vowed to use this season"s remaining games as preparation for a promotion push next year.
And the Neilston gaffer, pictured, reckons his players will need to toughen up for life in the second tier.
He said: 'It will be a hard division next season and we will need to get tougher and be a stronger team, but we will need to see what players are available in pre-season.
'The boys have given us great effort this season and stood up for themselves when necessary.
'The young lads now have the experience of playing at the top level and that should hopefully stand us in good stead for next season.
'We will be aiming to come straight back up, but it will take a great effort from the players if we are to do that.'
On Saturday, Neilston were up against some of the best players in Junior football in the shape of Pollok, but still managed to create openings before succumbing to a 3-0 defeat.
A Richie Newall free-kick and a brace from Bryan Dingwall was enough to see off a spirited Neilston.
But Lindsay is confident of an improved performance in the quarter-final of the Central League Cup when the two meet again, who booked their place with a 2-1 win over Kirkintilloch Rob Roy on Monday.
He said: 'They were three up by half-time but we had two or three decent chances ourselves before they scored.
'Pollok picked us off a wee bit I suppose, but we did create some chances and when you do that and don"t put them away then you aren"t going to win games.
'The players have worked hard for me this year, but it has been a hard season for us.
'It will be a great game for us in the quarter-final of the cup and I am sure we will get a better performance than we did on Saturday.'
A date is still to be set for the tie at the Brig "O Lea, but Neilston are hoping for a bumper crowd which will boost the club"s coffers ahead of next season"s bid for promotion.
Lindsay also revealed he is looking to strengthen his squad for next season and has been impressed with Ross Chesney who he has promoted from the under 21s.
The young striker was on the bench against Peterhill in the last round of the cup and Lindsay reckons he did well when he came on so will feature at some point against Pollok.
The Farmers" Boys booked their place in the quarter-final courtesy of a late Neil Blair strike at Ravenscraig last week. Blair pounced following a goalmouth scramble to avoid the lottery of penalties against 9-man Greenock.
