REALISTIC Girvan FC boss Lawrie Dinwoodie admitted his side look destined for the nailbiting playoffs as they bid to preserve their Premier Division status.

Girvan are anchored at the bottom of the table with just nine points from 17 games and now face a battle to avoid dropping to next season's Championship, following the 1-0 defeat home to title-chasing Beith on Saturday.

However Dinwoodie firmly believes his team are playing well but just not getting the breaks.

He said: "We played well and missed a few chances and Beith had some opportunities and the hit the post. But they took the chance they had and scored. It was disappointing to take nothing from the game when we put so much into it."

Girvan face a tough run-in to the end of the season, facing title challengers Auchinleck Talbot at home and away and Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, Hurlford United and Beith away from home.

Dinwoodie said: "They are all tough games but we will keep battling away. It looks like there's a chance we might be in the playoffs where we could Arthurlie and the likes of Irvine Meadow or Rutherglen Glencairn, but I think if it came to that we would have a good chance of winning. Obviously we want to stay in the Premier Division."
