Neilston put in a top performance as they ran out 6-1 winners against a lacklustre East Kilbride Thistle at Showpark on Monday night.

Youngster Dylan Fletcher banged in a hat-trick before Thistle managed to pull one back for the home side.

Allan Diack and Craig Patterson then proceeded to add to Neilston’s tally, before Fletcher added his fourth to cap the rout.

Neilston co-manager Martin Campbell praised the performance of the goalscorers, particularly that of youngster Fletcher.

He said: “Dylan scored four goals but should have got five. The boys at the back are doing their job and giving the boys up front the platform to score goals.

“He’s come in from the under 21s and is banging them in which is great. He is taking the lead from Paul Stewart and the two of them are working really well together.

“His goals were all pretty good finishes, although all the goals last night were good.

“Craig was out nine weeks with a dislocated knee cap, but was back on the other night and back to scoring ways. He took his goals on the night very well too.

It was perhaps unsurprising that Campbell’s side performed so well with confidence running high in the side on the back of two solid results on Saturday and last Wednesday.

Neilston shared the points against second-placed Rossvale at Brig O’Lea on Saturday, as they came from behind in the second-half to secure a 1-1 draw.

Brilliant saves from Donnelly, including a penalty stopped them taking all three points, as the same starting eleven that won the previous two games took to the field.

The opening stages were very scrappy as both sides had to adapt to a bumpy pitch making it difficult. Neilston were first to create the first chance in the ninth minute when McBryde corner was dummied by Stewart and Donnelly managed to touch Fletcher’s shot by the post.

The Vale responded with Hunter’s shot going straight at the keeper. At the other end, Stewart came with a shot that went just by the post then Docherty went close with a shot that went just by the post.

Rossvale opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Hunter slotted home into the bottom corner from 20 yards out, before Neilston came close to an equaliser minutes later. Neilston came close to equalize minutes later when Stewart cut in from left to see his shot tipped around the post by Donnelly.

Neilston pressed forward and kept the defenders busy but couldn’t get the deserve equaliser before half-time.

Neilston started the second half well as they pressed for the equalizer. Curren’s cross found Docherty but he headed wide. They Neilston then got their deserved equalizer in the 60th minute when McBryde’s corner wasn’t cleared properly and Stewart drove the ball home from the edge of the box.

Later on, McBryde was upended inside the box by Leadbetter, but Stewart’s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Donnelly to turn the ball around for a corner. The Farmers boys made a change with Patterson replacing Docherty and he got involved when he crossed for Stewart who headed wide.

The visitors missed a great chance to take the lead again with 10 minutes left after Giffin made space down the right and his cross found McDowall at the back post but he blasted the ball over the bar.

Neilston pushed for the winner but couldn’t get one as the Vale held out.

Earlier on Wednesday, they continued their unbeaten form in the league with a comfortable 4-1 victory over bottom Thorniewood United at Brig O’Lea.

Doubles from both Paul Stewart and Dylan Fletcher gave Neilston another three points to add to their tally and cut the gap down to two after third place, St Roch’s drew with Yoke.

Their line-up was unchanged from the previous week’s win at Benburb. while Wood had two former players on the bench – Craig Murphy and Mark McCuish.
