Arthurlie travelled to Bellsdale Park on Saturday more in hope than expectation but lost 4-1 to Beith.

Lie got off to the perfect start when they took the lead after only five minutes as Grindlay and MacDonald seemed to leave a through ball to each other and James Marks nipped between the goalkeeper and centre back to take possession before rolling the ball home.

Two minutes later it was almost all square, however, when a ball into the Arthurlie penalty area saw Buke hit an effort that came back off the crossbar to safety.

The home side started to pile on the pressure and eleven minute in drew level.

Christie gathered on the right and was allowed to cut inside and drift along the 18 yard line before turning back onto his right foot and shooting low past Grant Hay.

Minutes later it was Christie again who tried his luck this time with his left foot but Hay managed to save this time.

McGlinchey was next to try his luck when venturing forward from his right back berth as he tried a chip from the edge of the area that went just over.

Twenty minutes were on the clock when a Christie corner once again found Burke but as before his effort came back off the crossbar before being scrambled clear.

Christie’s pace and directness was causing the Lie defence no end of problems and just after the half hour mark he tested Hay again after a good run.

Play then switched to the other side and after good interplay between Marks and Kieran McAleenan the latter hit a low shot across goal that Grindlay, at full stretch, got down to claim.

Beith had another effort come back off the woodwork when five minutes from the break Burke couldn’t keep his shot from the edge of the box down and the sides went in for the break level at one apiece.

Two minutes after the restart Beith went ahead when Christie capitalised on a mix up in the Barrhead defence to crash an unstoppable effort high into the net.

It was all Beith now and Jordan Craig had to head clear from almost under his own crossbar at one end, while on a rare foray up field McAleenan shot just wide.

Bradley, McPherson and McLean were all introduced for the home side and with seven minutes remaining they grabbed a third. McPherson saw his initial shot blocked but was first to react to the loose ball to fire home. Two minutes from time and the move of the match saw the home side gain a deserved fourth.

Bradley played a great ball into the area for McLean who looked up and held possession until Frize came racing into the box feeding the ball into the path of the midfielder who needed no second invitation and fired home low past Hay.
