NEILSTON co-manager Martin Campbell is demanding more consistency from his side as the Farmer’s Boys get ready to kick off their league campaign on Saturday.

The Brig O’Lea side had some notable highs during their Sectional League Cup campaign despite not qualifying from their group.

Neilston notched up three wins out of four games, including a 2-0 win over local rivals and Premier League side Arthurlie as well as Saturday’s 2-1 comeback win away at St Anthony’s.

However, Campbell has called on Neilston’s new-look squad to cut out the dips in form they have shown during some games as they get set to start their Central District First Division campaign away at newly-promoted Forth Wanderers on Saturday.

He said: “If I’m being honest, we’ve been up and down in our performances. For example, the Arthurlie game was fantastic from start to finish, it was a great team performance.

“On Saturday we showed how bad we can be in the first half but we certainly turned it around in the second half and deserved to win the game.

“We have to try to find that winning habit. It’s very early stages but we need to find more consistency, we can be woeful for 20 minutes and then brilliant for 20 minutes after that.”

The League Cup games have given Campbell and fellow co-boss John Paul Dow the chance to run the rule over their new-look squad following their arrival from Greenock Juniors in June.

With plenty of new players arriving as well, Campbell insists the squad are showing signs of gelling together.

He added: “We’ve got a good idea of how the team will shape up. The results have been good and it sets us up for the league.

“If you could’ve given us three wins out of four before the Sectional games started, I think we all would’ve been happy with that.

“We need to build on that now.”
