ARTHURLIE assistant manager Chris Mackie has revealed the club are on the verge of making two signings in the forward area.

Mackie had previously said the Barrhead side were happy with the squad they had, however two targets have become available and they are ready to act, although he was reluctant to reveal the identity of the players until deals were struck.

He said: “We’re possibly going to add in the forward area. One or two things have popped up which are definitely interesting us.

“We have someone in on trial who is showing up quite well. And there is another one that might become available which would be quite exciting for us.

“We’re delighted with how things are going and were happy enough to go with what we had but as things have evolved we might have one or two more to come in.

“I don’t want to give out names just now, one is a Barrhead boy.

“The other one has a good pedigree but he hasn’t played for a while so I want to be fair to him and see if we can get him ready before we announce anything.

“One is an attacking midfielder who can play up front and one is an out and out striker.”

The striker would provide competition for Gary Smith, something Mackie thinks is essential.

He added: “It would give us a good option other than Gary Smith, to play alongside Gary or push for a start.

“I’m the competition for Gary and I’m not pushing him as much as we would like another striker to.

“That will be better for the squad.”
