Arthurlie ran out comfortable 6-0 winners over Kilsyth Rangers last Wednesday night as they continued their pre-season preparations.

The Super League First Division side were easily brushed aside at Dunterlie Park.

The visitors had the first chance after 12 minutes but the free kick effort went just wide.

Ten minutes later Arthurlie took the lead, Gary Carroll gathered the ball on the left before squaring for to leave Martin Curren with the simplest of tasks to tap home his second goal in two games in an impressive start to his Arthurlie career.

Just before the half-hour it if was 2-0 when Graham Girvan’s sent over a corner from the left found Ryan McGregor, who managed to find space in the crowded penalty area to head home the second.

Thirty-four minutes were on the clock when the game’s main talking point came. Another corner from Girvan on 34 minutes found Scott Gair who seemingly headed home. But something had happened inside the penalty area and all of a sudden the visiting keeper had wrestled Carroll to the ground.

Players from both sides joined the ensuing melee and it took the referee a couple of minutes to regain control.

The Kilsyth shot-stopper was first to see red before receive his marching orders soon followed by Arthurlie assistant manager/player Chris Mackie followed for who had encroaching onto the field of play, albeit to try and calm things down.

The third dismissal was for Gair, who had seemed to be the peacemaker and it was possibly a victim case of mistaken identity on the official’s part.

Ryan McGregor dropped into the back four following Gair’s red card, but nothing changed as Arthurlie continued to dominate and two minutes before the break they added a fourth two minutes before the break when Carroll was brought down inside the penalty area and Gary Smith stepped up and slotted home what was the last goal of the first half.

Into the second half, Smith added his second and Arthurlie’s fifth on 53 eight minutes, turning home when he knocked home from a Craig Palmer’s cross.

As with most pre-season games, both sides rang the a raft of changes from both sides ensued slowing the momentum of the game but there was still time for Arthurlie to add a sixth.

With 20 minutes to go Brian Turner burst into the Kilsyth penalty area on 70 minutes only to be felled and from the resulting penalty Darren Gribben gave the keeper no chance as he blasted the ball home to complete the scoring for the night.
