Recent poor results have seen the Dunterlie Park side dragged back into the relegation dogfight alongside Kilbirnie Ladeside and Shotts Bon Accord, both of who have taken three points off Lie in the space of a week.

Waddell admits results haven’t been as good as the management team would have liked but says now is the time for the players and coaching staff to stand up and be counted.

With the remaining league fixtures pitting Arthurlie against Auchinleck Talbot, Glenafton and Hurlford, the games don’t get any easier for the Barrhead side, who must find three points from somewhere to seal their Super League status for another season, Speaking to Barrhead Sport, Waddell said: “We have a massive few weeks ahead of us and we are all aware of that.

“No fixtures in this league are easy, and with the midweek games anything can happen. It doesn’t get any harder than Talbot, but listen, these are the games that the boys love playing in and they will be more than up for it.

“I’m confident we will stay up. There are still nine points up for grabs and a win would see us safe I think.

“Twenty-four points would normally be enough to stay up in this league, but the fact we are still fighting to remain in the division shows how tight the league is.” A combination of lapses in concentration and failure to take their chances has been Arthurlie’s downfall in recent weeks. They have given away penalties against both Kirbirnie and Shotts, whilst other goals could have been avoided.

Waddell concedes his side have been their own worst enemy at times in recent games — but believes that recent defeats aren’t down to a lack of confidence.

He said: “Confidence isn’t an issue, this is a cracking bunch of guys we have at the club and some really good players.

“But individual errors are costing us at the moment. Every game we have played we have done well, but errors have cost us goals and we have been struggling to take our chances which has also been costly.

“At times we have been by far the better side, but lapses in concentration have crept in and that has been our downfall.”
