The Farmer’s Boys at one stage led Greenock 3-1 before being clawed back to a 3-3 draw at the Brig O’Lea. With points at a premium in the league, three points would have seen Neilston put the pressure on Greenock in the spot above, but the draw did little to worry Whiteford.

He told Barrhead Sport: “It was tough to take as we played very well in spells and had some chances to put the game beyond any doubt.

“On the whole we deserved to win but all the results at the weekend went our way.

“You have to look at the bigger picture, at the end of the day we aren’t any closer to going down and we have come away from a tough game with a point.” Whiteford will now prepare his charges for Saturday’s visit of Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

Rob Roy were recently knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Arthurlie, but Whiteford is expecting a tough tie, despite some advice from Robert Downs.

He added: “I actually spoke to Robert before they played Rob Roy as he had watched them.

“But I don’t read too much into things like that. It will all depend on who turns up on the day.”
