There was a lengthy delay in play in the second half of Saturday’s tie with Cumnock following a sickening clash of heads between Green and ‘Nok striker Sean McKenzie.

However the former Albion Rovers defender was not willing to give up that easily, and following treatment on the sidelines he made his way back on to the park to see out the remainder of the match.

With two late goals sealing the victory, Green played a key role with a number of crucial interceptions as the clock ticked down.

However instead of celebrating it was straight to the hospital for the big centre back.

He told Barrhead Sport: “I ended up going to hospital to get my head glued.

“The wound was quite bad but believe it or not it wasn’t that sore. I lost a good bit of blood and I’ve ended up getting stitches but the result is the most important thing.

“I’ve actually just went up and headered the boy instead of the ball. It was a bad one but I should be alright for Saturday’s game with Beith.

“A few people were saying it was a nasty one but I just wanted to get on with the game and in the end we got the right result.” Green has experienced a frustrating season which has seen him ruled out for a number of months through injury.

Recent weeks have seen him feature heavily in the club’s cup run and new boss Robert Downs seems keen to keep Green in his starting 11, something Green hopes will continue.

He added: “I was out for a few months at the start of the season with a knee ligament injury.

“Its a pain, it feels like I am always injured but hopefully I can keep fit and get on with it. I am really enjoying it under the new management, they have brought a lot of experience and we can all learn from them.”
