The left back secured a deal at Dunterlie a fortnight ago, and revealed to Barrhead Sport that he signed for Arthurlie at the second time of asking.

Palmer said: “I actually had the chance to come here at the start of the season.

“Gavin Duncan had shown an interest in bringing me in to the club but after chatting to him I decided that I wanted to stay on at Peasy.” However, despite turning down the opportunity to join the Barrhead club, things soon turned sour at Petershill for Palmer. A falling out with bosses Willie Patterson and Paul Kelly resulted in Palmer seeking a transfer, and once again he was on Arthurlie’s radar.

Palmer explained: “I am good friends with Ryan McArdle and I asked him to ask the manager if he would be interested in me coming in.

“I went in for training and to be fair to everybody the club have brilliant.

“I’m really enjoying it and I am just glad to have signed up.

“It is a fresh start for me, and a great opportunity to be involved. I haven’t played since October 25 due to the circumstances surrounding my departure from Petershill but I feel I am fit enough to play a full game.” There a few familiar faces in the Arthurlie ranks, with Palmer having already played alongside McArdle, Michael White and Ryan McGregor at Peasy.

He admits he has been impressed with the squad.

He added: “There is a great squad of boys here, I have played against or with a lot of them before and I know what they are capable of doing.

“We are capable of achieving something this season and I hope that we can get a good run in the league.

“Unfortunately I am cup tied for the all the cups which is obviously a bit annoying but I hope to get a good run of games together once I get myself to full fitness.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge to be honest.”
