The Dunterlie side are preparing to face Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in the fourth round of the tournament, this Saturday.

It has been over 16 long years since the prestigious trophy was last brought back to Barrhead following a famous 4-0 victory over rivals Pollok at Fir Park. And for McEwan, who narrowly missed out on a winners medal in last season’s final between Glenafton and Hurlford, success in the cup is top of his agenda.

He revealed: “It is a massive week for us, we want to give a good account of ourselves and continue into the next round of the Scottish Cup.

“I have a good affiliation with the tournament having been to last year’s final, and it is something I will be stressing to the boys before Saturday’s match.

“There is the usual buzz about the place, and that will only increase come as the week goes on. We are ready to go, the players, the staff, myself and all the coaches can’t wait.

“We have approached the tie in a professional manner, we have had Rob Roy watched, and we know that they have had us watched.

“Myself, Craig Potter and Stevie Kerrigan went along to see them against Largs Thistle at the weekend after the match was switch to Barrfields so we have identified some key areas to focus on.” ‘Lie booked their spot in the fourth round with comprehensive victories over Hall Russell United, Dunbar and Darvel Juniors. Rob Roy will no doubt provide the sternest test so far, with Stewart Maxwell’s side currently sitting fourth in the Super League First Division.

However, that doesn’t deter McEwan, he added: “People point to the year that Largs Thistle got to the final, the year that Shotts Bon Accord got the final, last year with Glenafton getting there. It proves that it can be done by anybody, all you need is a good run and to be winning football matches.

“These are the games that you want to be playing in, these are the games that you want to be winning.

“There is no point playing if you’re don’t want to winning. Anyone who claims they are happy to play for a side that loses every week is lying.

“I want to win every week, I want to win this week, I want to win the Scottish Cup.” Arthurlie’s tie with Auchinleck Talbot was postponed last Saturday, with the Beechwood Park surface deemed unplayable due to the weather. With a scattering of snow on Tuesday morning, there are already doubts surrounding Saturday’s match at Dunterlie.

McEwan admits it is a concern but is hopeful of playing come 1.45pm, Saturday afternoon.

He said: “Stephen, Arthur and the committee have been working overtime on the pitch in the hope that the game goes ahead.

“Obviously it is all dependent on the weather but we all know they will be trying their hardest to make sure the game gets the go ahead.”
