Whiteford’s team currently sit in 11th place — the last relegation spot — in the Super League First Division, but with only five points separating them from fifth placed Kilsyth, their situation is likely to change on a weekly basis.

This weekend sees Neilston travel to Ardeer, the side immediately below them, before ties with Cumbernauld and Irvine Victoria complete a January which could go a long way to deciding their fate this season.

However Whiteford is confident of coming away from those games with positive results Whiteford said: “We’re confident in most games we go into that we can pick up three points. Ardeer will be a difficult game, they have home advantage. They were unlucky to lose a last minute goal to lose at Shettleston on Saturday.

“I don’t think the results in these games will decide if we stay up or go down, it’ll probably go until the end of the season. But if we can take the majority of points from those games it will certainly put us in a good position.” Meanwhile Whiteford remains confident of strengthening his squad with some new signings. There is also better news on the injury front as players return from spells out.

He said: “Graeme Dempsey should be signed up this week, it’s just a case of getting the paperwork sorted but he’s happy to sign and we’re certainly happy to have him.

“We’ve had a couple of trialists in training so there might be the potential for getting more signed up.

“Injury wise we have a few players back in training after being out, we are certainly looking a lot better in terms of numbers.”
