Cameron scored the opener in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat of Kilsyth at Brig O’Lea, taking his tally to six goals since he resigned for the club after a spell at Neilston Amateurs.

Whiteford told Barrhead Sport: “I know what Robbie is capable of, he adds an extra dimension to the team. He has six goals since he’s been back which is a good return.

“He needs to keep working hard, he has been unlucky with injuries in the past.” The win against Kilsyth was Neilton’s third in the last four games, a run which has seen them escape the relegation zone and Whiteford was pleased with his side’s display.

He said: “It was a good performance and we deserved the three points. We worked hard in difficult conditions, the pitch was soft under foot.

“We created the better chances and could have been more than one goal up at half-time.

“Second half was slightly different, we sat a bit deeper but having said that we defended well and they were awarded a penalty which I didn’t think was the right decision.

“But it was a good win and good to keep our run of form going, winning three out of four is a good return.” Saturday’s match was the half-way point in Neilston’s league campaign and Whiteford concedes that the target for the remaining games is to stay away from the relegation places.

He said: “Its been a challenge so far. We started off playing well without maybe getting the points our performances merited.

“We’re sitting in 10th place at the moment and out of the relegation places, I have to say if you offered me that position in May I would take it although I feel the team is capable of achieving more.”
