It was the Farmer’s Boys first league win since a 2-0 win over Thorniewood back on September 20 and moves them to within touching distance of escaping the relegation zone.

However Whiteford could’ve been forgiven for thinking the table might have made for some worrying reading for him when his team went 1-0 down after 45 seconds.

He said: “After we concede so early you start to think its maybe not going to be, because we had started the game brightly.

“We were patient and after that moment we dominated the game, we created lots of chances and eventually got the goal before half-time. Second half I thought we were excellent, it was great to score the six goals — it could’ve been more. In all honesty it could’ve been eight or nine.

It was a good day for Neilston’s new signings. Striker Graeme Barbour was signed this week until the end of the season — he came off the bench to score. While fellow new recruits Robbie Cameron, scored two, and Barry Tulloch — who the club this week managed to secure from Rossvale until the end of the season having initially signed until January on loan — also got on the score-sheet.

Whiteford said: “That’s what we’ve been missing, it is good that we now have options particularly in the forward positions. Graeme Barbour came on and was excellent, four goals between the three new signings is an excellent start for them.

“I can now turn to the bench and know I have options. The guys playing in these positions at the start of the season were doing well but they weren’t getting help.”
