The former Glenafton defender will be assisted by assistant managers Stevie Kerrigan and Craig Potter, who have also joined up.
Potter played alongside McEwan at Clyde before once again playing alongside each other at Glenafton.
The trio took training for the first time on Monday night and will be charge for the first time this Saturday away to Clydebank.
Arthurlie secretary, Andrew Pollock, told Barrhead Sport: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Craig.
“It has been a long process but we feel we have come to the right decision and believe there has been a good outcome.
“Craig will be assisted by Stevie Kerrigan and Craig Potter who have also joined the club in a coaching capacity and we are full of confidence heading into Saturday’s match with Clydebank.
“The committee are excited by the decision to appoint them and Craig certainly stood out from the crowd in the application process.
“We wish them all the best in their new role — and in this exciting new chapter for Arthurlie Football Club.”
