NEILSTON may have continued their unbeaten start to the season on Saturday but boss Andy Whiteford insists he is looking for an improvement come next week.

The Farmer’s Boys have opened their Super League First account with two draws on the bounce, following up last week’s draw with Ardeer Thistle with a 1-1 stalemate away to Maybole.

And despite admitting he was impressed with the way his side have got their season underway, Whiteford told Barrhead Sport he feels they could have had their first win on the board by this stage.

He said: “Saturday was better for us than last week but it could be said that we are undefeated.

“I think the first game was a bit disappointing especially after going into the break 2-0 up and could have added to that in the second half but the Maybole game was definitely more pleasing.

“They are a good side who I think finished fourth in the league last year so we knew it was going to be a hard game especially with it coming away from home.

“I think we can still go on and improve and we need to go on now and look to win some games.” In the ranks for Saturday’s tie was former Glenafton and Renfrew man John Craig.

Listed as a trialist for the second game running Whiteford admitted Craig is someone he is interested in adding to the squad.

He added: “John’s not played too much in the last while but he has come in and we have had a look at him.

“There are a few clubs interested in him so we will need to wait and see what happens but we will sit down at some point this week and see if we can work something out.” Neilston now look forward to facing Sectional League Cup finalists Cumbernauld United on Saturday.

John Queen’s side booked their place in the final with a 3-0 win over Port Glasgow last Wednesday and Whiteford insisted he knows the test they will provide.

He said: “We know Cumbernauld are a good side and it will be another hard challenge, but most games are at this level.”
