NEILSTON continued their fine home record on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Lanark—despite putting on a performance that boss Andy Whiteford labelled one of their worst of the season.

The Farmer’s Boys remain unbeaten at the Brig O’Lea all season, aiding them in their push for promotion andWhiteford admits he is just pleased to continue picking up points.

He said: “It was fantastic to get the win. It was made all the more brilliant by the fact it was probably one of our worst performances of the season.

“You could say that it is the sign of a good side that we are still picking up points even when we are not playing well.

“To be fair our keeper was excellent throughout the match, pulling of a number of saves to keep us in the lead.We defended really well and the determination not to get beat was fantastic.

“Then going forward, we created a few chances and the first goal was a good bit of quality to put us ahead.

But overall the performance showed me that the lads are prepared to work hard for the club and the victory and that is great to see.” WithWhiteford’s side in fourth position, they sit in a prime position to mount a serious promotion bid and he admitted that it was always his aim to get Neilston promoted this season.

He added:“Since I came in I have always said that Neilston are more than capable of competing higher up in the game.

“It has been the aim all year to get promoted and I said that to the boys before the season even began.

I think Neilston as a club and a town deserve it.

“We will just keep trying but there are probably around six teams who can go up this years so we will not be getting carried away.
