McShane wants Buddies break
BARRHEAD football star Jon McShane hopes to break into the St Mirren starting 11.
The striker flourished at Second Division side Dumbarton on loan last season and picked up player of the month award for March and bagged 13 goals in 29 apperances.
McShane's now hopes to give Buddies boss Danny Lennon, pictured above, a selection headache and secure a first-team place in the Saints side.
He told Barrhead Sport: "Last season was a big step up. I've been coming off the bench and I think the manager wants to break me in gently.
"I don't think he wants to throw me straight in.
"At the start of the season I didn't expect to be featuring in every match. But when I get a chance I will take it.
"It is a good set up at St Mirren and the facilities are great and it will improve me as a player.
"I have been brought on eight or nine games in the league. I know that the system isn't built for two strikers up front.
"It is more for one striker and two wingers coming forward. The system has been working well and I know I don't have the right to be chapping the manager's door."
St Mirren have made a surprising start, breaking into the top six and playing some terrific attacking football.
That is no shock to 20-year-old McShane, however, and he added: "They have signed some good players but to be honest bringing in Tommy Craig has made a big difference.
"He is an old head and his work with the players in training has been excellent."
