ST MIRREN manager Jack Ross has called on his side to secure Championship survival for Saints’ crocked stars.

Lewis Morgan went off during Saturday’s 6-2 win over Ayr United with what looked to be a serious injury – initial fears of a fracture were dispelled after an X-ray but a scan confirmed the winger has suffered ligament damage and bone bruising. It remains uncertain if he will feature again this season.

Morgan has been in influential form this season, and joins long-term injury absentees David Clarkson and Harry Davis on the Paisley club’s treatment table.

Ross conceded it was a major loss for Saints. He said: “It could be a serious one for him. Which is a blow first and foremost for him and selfishly as a club it is a blow because he has been excellent. We’ve had it recently with Harry Davis and David Clarkson, sometimes it strengthens the resolve in the changing room to finish the season well for them as much as anybody.”

Ross was delighted with the his side’s rout of Ayr in what was Saints’ biggest home win since moving to their current ground in 2009.

He added: “The players were terrific. Given the importance of the game the manner in which they played for large parts was great and it was a terrific day for us. It continues the form we have been in, over the last two or three months our results have been excellent.”
