ST MIRREN have signed former Rangers midfielder Kyle Hutton on a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old has committed his future to the Buddies after an impressive season with Queen of the South during which he played 33 times under the now-departed James Fowler.

Having begun his career in the youth set-up at Murray Park, Hutton made his first team debut in a match against Kilmarnock in August 2010 and started against Manchester United in the Champions League two months later.

Hutton spent the first half of the 2011/12 season on loan at Partick Thistle before joining Dunfermline Athletic in the January transfer window.

Returning to Ibrox the following season, the Scotland Under-21 cap established himself as a key member of Ally McCoist's squad which won the Scottish Third Division.

The midfielder then suffered a broken leg in an Under-20s fixture with Partick which ruled him out for most of the 2013/14 campaign before making the move to Palmerston Park last year.

Hutton becomes Alex Rae's first signing of the summer as the Saints boss begins plotting for a promotion push in his first full season in charge at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.
