Arthurlie boss Duncan Sinclair has confirmed the club have made their first signing of the summer with goalkeeper Craig Gordon penning a one-year deal at Dunterlie Park.

The Lie gaffer, who is adamant that he won’t delve into the transfer market for the sake of it this summer, secured the services of the 24-year-old Kirkintilloch Rob Roy keeper while also revealing the club are in talks with two more potential targets.

“We’ve managed to get one of the boys we were after over the line,” Sinclair told Barrhead Sport. “He’s a top keeper and is moving to the Barrhead area so we were delighted to sign him.

“There’s two players in particular that we’re very keen to get on board. We’re not speaking to anyone else at the moment as if we manage to get those two then we’ll be sitting at 20 players.

“If we’re able to get the two players we’ve identified then I’ll be over the moon but at this moment in time it’s around 50/50.

“We’ve got 18 players now signed up with Gordon coming in so we’re only looking for another two.

“We also want to have a look at some of the under 21s boys as our under 21s and Barrhead Youth are in partnership. There would be no point in having that agreement in place if we weren’t going to take advantage of it so I’ll be inviting some of those young players along for a run out in most of our pre-season matches.”

While talks are ongoing and Sinclair is hopeful of getting his men, he admitted he has been left slightly frustrated at the speed in which discussions have moved along.

He said: “It’s been quite difficult and frustrating to get the deals over the line as a lot of things have been going on away from football. We wanted to try and get all of our business done as soon as possible but it’s not looking like that will happen any more.

“I’m away on holiday this week and then my assistant Tam McLaughlin is away on Friday so it’s going to be quite difficult to get everything sorted before we arrive back before our pre-season starts.”

With pre-season friendlies in mind, Sinclair admitted he is likely to use next month’s Sectional League Cup as an extension to his side’s summer fixtures, adding: “We’ll be using the Sectional League Cup as mostly friendlies to be honest. We did it last year as a necessity as we had so many new players we had to see playing.

“This year will be different as we’ll mostly have a settled squad but we’ll still be looking at different formations and shapes at that point.”
