Celtic last night dismissed claims that Australian winger Daniel Arzani has a clause in his contract which would entitle him to return to Manchester City before the turn of the year.

Reports from an Australian website had claimed that there is a clause in the teenager’s loan deal that would allow him to leave Celtic and go back to Pep Guardiola’s side if he had not broken into the Celtic first-team by December.

However, that has been rubbished by Celtic.

Arzani signed a two-year loan deal with the club in August although the winger has yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for Brendan Rodgers’ side. The player has been limited to reserve team outings and it is believed that Celtic remain confident that over the loan deal he will assimilate into the senior team.

The 19-year-old impressed at the World Cup where he made three substitute appearances for Australia before the Socceroos were eliminated from the tournament. Having moved from Melbourne City to Manchester City, the winger was immediately farmed out on loan by the Premier League side.

Celtic have a long standing relationship with City in terms of developing players with Patrick Roberts, Jason Denayer and John Guidetti all given first-team exposure in Glasgow.

Rodgers insisted shortly after the start of the season that Arzani still had to work to do in terms of his fitness and ability, reflected in the fact that the player was not included in Celtic’s Europa League squad.
