ARTHURLIE assistant manager Tam McLaughlin insists he cannot wait for the routine of the regular season to return after watching his side play two matches in three days in the Sectional League Cup.

The Lie overcame Benburb 5-3 on Saturday before losing to Johnstone Burgh on Monday as their cup campaign hangs in the balance and McLaughlin is now looking forward to league action returning.

He said: “Three weeks ago we only had three players signed so it’s a big job here. Every result we get we’re going to be happy with, whether it’s 6-0 or 1-0. We’ll just take what we can get. It’s a good test and it gives us a good idea of where we are and where we want to be.

“But we’ll need to make some changes to the side. We have been playing Monday, Wednesday, Saturday for a while now and it’s catching up with us.

“We’ve not got a massive squad so it’s all about giving opportunities to the guys that we have. I had a good chat with Duncan on the phone for about 50 minutes on Saturday night. We had a good chat about one or two things that need sorting out.

“He’s of the same mindset as me that as long as we get a result that’s the main thing. Rome wasn’t built in a day and we’ll keep working.

“It’s difficult because we’re just playing games and not training but when the schedule calms down we can get on the training ground and work on these things.”

Lie now take on Neilston tonight in their final cup match before their league campaign kicks off on Saturday.
