Barrhead high jumper David Smith finished in a disappointing 4th place at the Cork City Sports International Athletics meet.
The 26-year-old used the event as a warm up for next month’s European Championships in Berlin where he will represent Great Britain for the first time.
Smith qualified for Berlin with an equal personal best clearance of 2.26m three weeks ago in Birmingham as he won silver at the British Athletics Championships. That same height would have seen him win in Cork but he could not replicate that form and now travels to Sweden for another warm-up event as his preparations for the European Championships heat up.
Paisley’s Allan Smith, who must wait to see if he is chosen as third qualifier for Berlin, finished further down in fifth place in Cork.
