Neilston co-manager Martin Campbell has hailed the addition of another top forward as his side gear up to make their mark in the new West Region Championship this season.

Stuart Mansfield is the Farmer’s Boys’ third new signing ahead of the 2018/19 campaign and arrives at Brig O’Lea from Greenock based amateur side Blairmore FC, where he scored 45 goals last season.

Campbell said: “The majority of the coaching team, including myself, stay in Greenock, so Stuart is someone we have known.

“He probably should have been playing at a higher level than he has, but that has been down to working shifts.

“He is someone we have kept our eye on and his shifts have changed lately, so it is only just now that we have managed to get the chance to sign him.

“He is a big, powerful striker with great pace and he has certainly got an eye for goal – 45 goals in a season, regardless of where you play is a decent tally.

“In terms of strikers we have Paul Stewart, who has been our talisman for the last season or so. Craig Patterson has got good hold-up play and Dylan Fletcher also has great ability.

“Stuart will probably give us more running power. He’ll be looking to come in and force his way in and that’s what all the boys want – a good bit of competition. It makes everyone raise their game.”

From last season’s promotion squad, Connor Milne, Robbie Kellie, Hamish McKinlay and John Mitchell have moved on but key men Kieran McDade and Stephen Docherty have been tied down.

Campbell said: “They are a focal point of the team and made an outstanding contribution last season.”
