The ladies pictured here playing in the triples are just a few of the members of Crofthead Bowling Club who have been making the most of the fine weather by spending more time on the green.

Members are currently working through their own championship games.

But glorious sunshine has also fortunately coincided with the club’s drive to encourage more people of all ages to discover the joy of playing bowls.

Crofthead has been running a campaign since June to try and get new members involved with the club and many have taken up the chance to play for free for the remainder of the summer season

Past president Linday King said: “They will get a wee bit of instruction and the chance to try it. They don’t need bowling shoes, as long as people have flat soled shoes, we are more than happy to take them on. Just come down at 1pm on a Sunday for as long or as short as you like.

“All ages can come if they want to give it a go, the younger the better. We are trying to get teenagers playing as well.

“It has been good with the weather. We have been playing up until 9pm at night, which is usually unheard of.”

In other club news, four ladies have succeeded in getting through to the West of Scotland District Finals.

They will be playing the next round in Greenock next week.

Linda added: “It will be a first for a club if they win, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.”
