Neilston co-manager Martin Campbell insists his side will not be complacent as they take a 1-0 lead into the second leg of the play-off contest with Shettleston.

A header from Paul Stewart in the second-half at Greenfield Park was enough to give the Farmer’s Boys victory in their bid for promotion to the Super First Division.

Campbell’s side stood up well to the side from Glasgow’s east end, who are desperate to save their league status.

But the gaffer knows they will still need to be on top of their game in their reverse to ensure they finish their season on a high.  He said: “When we went there we knew we would get a tough game and it panned out like that, with both teams going after it.

“Shettleston are determined to keep their league status and they were fired up, but the boys stood up well and we dealt with most of what they through of us.

“We put in a decent performance and it has set us up nicely for the home leg, hopefully. We will take a bit of confidence because we are one goal up, but by no means will we be complacent because they showed enough that the tie is certainly not over yet.”

Indeed, Shettleston started back after the interval on the front foot and came close to finding a goal themselves.

But Neilston goalkeeper Robert Tiropulous was on hand to produce some excellent saves and Campbell hailed the shot stopper for keeping the
Farmer’s Boys on top of the tie.

He added: “If it wasn’t for the keeper, it could have been different. He made an unbelievable save to touch the header on to the bar. Great credit to him because it was a fantastic save.

“The result could have been better, but to be 1-0 up going into the home leg, you can’t ask for much more than that and we need to go and finish the job.

“It’s a great opportunity to try and finish on a high and I was stressing to them to just go and grab it. They have applied themselves very well so far.”

Neilston take on Shettleston at Brig O’Lea in the home leg tonight, kick-off 7.30pm.
